Grizzli Winery not open yet

A large, new West Kelowna winery is saying construction delays have pushed back its opening by more than two months.

Grizzli Winery was set to open its doors to the public at the end of May 2016 – in time for the summer season, but as of now, the winery is still under construction and doors are closed.

A winery representative tells Castanet issues with construction and the contractor have set the winery back.

The winery is currently in the process of obtaining permits and says it hopes to open to the public in early August.

Grizzli, a 60,000-square-foot Tuscany inspired winery, takes its name from the Sylix/Okanagan people and the meaning of the name of Kelowna.

“Kelowna’s Westside is rapidly becoming one of B.C.’s most exciting wine-producing and tasting destinations for quality wines,” said John Chang, the owner behind Grizzli Winery at the announcement last year.

“We wanted the winery’s architecture and landscape design to provide an experience that would enhance visitor’s experience and appreciation of our wines.”

Grizzli is set to include a state-of-the-art production and fermentation plant, four wine tasting rooms equipped with audio visual technology, retail space and a restaurant with a 150 indoor-outdoor seating capacity.
