More security after attack

A man gunned down in New Westminster Thursday morning is an ex con captured in a police sting in 2006, according to CTV News.

The victim, Steven Porsch, is reported to have been an associate of the Red Scorpions gang.

“I can tell you it is Steven Porsch,” said acting New Westminster Mayor Lorrie Williams. “The fellow is in hospital and is at present expected to survive.”

Porsch had only recently been let out of prison after serving about two-thirds of a 16-year sentence.

According to court records, Porsch sold 40 firearms, mostly reconstructed military weapons, to an undercover police officer in 2005.

The judge in the case also found that Porsch had commissioned arsons in two Abbotsford pubs to eliminate the competition.

Porsch was reportedly nabbed by police in a “Mr. Big” sting ten years ago.

Thursday's shooting took place outside a halfway house.

Williams is demanding greater security measures be put in place at the halfway house, including more cameras, patrols and other safety measures.
