Canada Day: Take the bus

Downtown Kelowna is expected to be packed for Canada Day celebrations – with limited parking available in the area.

The city is encouraging people to take transit, especially to and from the fireworks which are set to begin at 10:30 p.m.

Buses will be running according to a regular Saturday schedule. Additional buses will be available at the Queensway Transit Exchange starting at 4 p.m. and will continue providing service until after the fireworks end to accommodate extra riders.

Regular fares apply, and children under 12 ride free when accompanied by an adult. Go online for route and schedule information.

Drivers planning to pick up attendees following the fireworks show are encouraged to do so in the City Park parking lot off Water Street to keep Bernard Avenue, Abbott Street and Water Street clear for cars to exit downtown.

Public parking will still be available at the Library Plaza Parkade at 1360 Ellis Street and Chapman Parkade at 345 Lawrence Avenue.

Drivers are warned that service disruptions and traffic delays may occur throughout the day due to road closures. Motorists are asked to obey traffic control personnel at all times for the safety of the large number of pedestrians anticipated.

The complete Canada Day event schedule can be found online.
