Stabbing suspect arrested

Police have a man in custody in connection with a stabbing in downtown Kelowna last weekend.

An unidentified 34-year-old Kelowna man was arrested Wednesday.

He was held in custody and taken before a justice of the peace before being released with strict conditions.

The suspect is expected to appear in court again July 26. He faces a potential charge of aggravated assault.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday in front of Sub City Donair on Bernard Avenue.

The victim, a 22-year-old Alberta man, was stabbed several times.

The owner of Sub City Donair said four people were involved in a fight on the sidewalk outside his restaurant before the victim was stabbed.

Several people were arrested at the scene and taken into custody for "various offences including causing a disturbance, public intoxication and obstruction," according to Const. Jesse O'Donaghey.

Those arrested were later released without charge.

Despite the arrest of the stabbing suspect, police are still appealing for witnesses who may have seen the incident or events that led up to it. Police believe there are more witnesses who have not yet come forward.
