Busy Penticton weekend

There is no shortage of activities in Penticton for the Canada Day long weekend.

On July 1, Slide the City will be a big attraction from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Vancouver Avenue. People can expect road closures at the location.

There are also plenty of daytime activities at Gyro Park and fireworks planned for later that night.

Rib Festival is happening from June 30 to July 3 at Okanagan Lake Park. The hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

It will offer a rib cook-off between four champion barbecue teams from across Canada, music throughout the entire event, entertainment and activities for children and youth, as well as a beverage garden and loads of vendors.

Organized by the Penticton Rotary Club, this event drew 20,000 people to the park in 2015. Over the weekend Rotary raised funds for ongoing community projects for the citizens of Penticton.

The Red Bull Open Water Party is on July 2 at Rotary Park. It will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Scottish Festival will unfold from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2 at Kings Park.

The one-day event celebrates Celtic culture with bagpiping, drumming, Highland dancing, heavy events competitions and much more.

Dragonboat super sprints will be held July 1 and 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Skaha Lake Park.
