Teen home during B&E

UPDATE: 9:03 p.m.

A 14-year-old girl came face-to-face with two men who broke into her home in Magic Estates Tuesday morning.

The girl was home alone just before noon, when two men began knocking on the door, and ringing the doorbell.

Wary of the strangers, she didn’t open the door, but a few minutes later she heard a loud crashing noise come from the garage.

The two men had knocked down the side door of their garage, and entered the home.

Standing on the stairs, she came face-to-face with the two men.

"She didn't say anything, I think she was in shock when she saw two strange men in her house," said Jennifer, the girl’s mother. “They said a couple of things to her, but fortunately they ran away."

A woman was also spotted outside the house, and Jennifer says she thinks the woman was acting as a spotter.

As far as they can tell, the men only got away with a bicycle.

Jennifer says the police have not yet found the culprits.

As for her daughter, Jennifer says she is doing OK now, but was quite upset at the time.

“We would love for the public to know that it happened and to be aware,” Jennifer said. “They broke our side garage door, made of steel, off the hinges. It was loud, it was really aggressive in the middle of the day.”

A community group is warning others to be on the lookout for two men in their 20s after a home was broken into in the Magic Estates area.

According to the Clifton Highland Community Association the men broke into a residence on Avonlea way while a 14-year-old girl was inside.

Tara Godwin, the president of CHCA, says the incident happened around noon Tuesday.

“There are numerous police vehicles and dogs searching the Magic and Clifton areas for the suspects,” she said in a release. “Please, keep your eyes open.”

It is unclear what happened when the suspects entered the home, and if the teen was able to escape safely.

Castanet will have more information when it becomes available.
