Girl, 9, struck by vehicle

A nine-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Revelstoke.

Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said police, fire and ambulance were called at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday to attend to a cyclist struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Fourth and Edward streets.

“The youth was wearing a helmet and crossing within a marked crosswalk,” said Grabinsky. “The nine-year-old girl was transported to hospital with serious injuries as she had struck the hood of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was issued a violation ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for driving without due care and attention.”

Grabinsky said emergency services personnel “wish to remind drivers to be aware of cyclists and pedestrians and to always drive with caution. Cyclists are reminded to always wear bike helmets, make yourselves visible and follow the rules of the road.”
