Fans gather at Elvis festival

Lydia Jansen was born the year Elvis Presley went into the Army in 1958 and she has pretty much been a fan ever since.

So, Saturday, she joined hundreds of others watching Elvis tribute artists perform at Okanagan Lake Park.

"He was a very good influence on a lot of people, and once you get into it, (being a fan), you can't get out of it," she said.

The 15th annual Penticton Elvis Festival is celebrating the legacy of the King of Rock and Roll through Sunday in the city.

The event features professional and non-professional tribute artists.

On Saturday, several of the artists performed and signed autographs for the enthusiastic crowd.

"I have been a part of this festival for 10 years as both a performer and management and now as a spectator," said Chris Kelso with the Kelso Entertainment Agency in Summerland. "And I love Elvis Presley. I've been a fan since I was a little boy."

Other highlights are the tribute show at 8 p.m., Saturday at the trade and convention centre.

The judged finals will be Sunday, also at the convention centre.

Other festival components, including the Sunday morning gospel singing, take place at Okanagan Lake Park.

A wrap-up party will take place on Sunday, following the judged finals, at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.

Tickets for this are available at the Penticton Lakeside Resort.
