Vintage vehicles galore

People travelled up from the U.S. or simply walked from their Penticton homes to the big annual car show held in the city this weekend.

It made for a huge crowd at the Peach City Beach Cruise, a three-day event, continuing through Sunday.

"This is our seventh year coming up from Washington, and we like the city, we like the area and the people and the car show," said Jack Mittendorf with the Misfits Car Club. "It's our favourite car show to come to, and we look forward to it every year."

An estimated 700 vintage vehicles, collector cars, customs, hot rods and trucks will are now on display the full length of Lakeshore Drive and at Lakawana Park.

Show vehicles are expected from as far away as Arizona and Texas.

As an added attraction this year, the show included six big-rig trucks, including a vintage Kenworth truck and several vintage motorhomes.

As well, the old boys and their toys had displays of vintage tractors, machinery and stationary engines in Lakawana Park.

McKee Auctions also returned with their collector car auction.

Ann and Tom Dorattti with the Apple Valley Cruisers attended with two vintage cars.

"We like that this brings people with the same attitudes and desire to keep old cars running together," said Tom Doratti.

And we're having a great time, added Ann.

Gyro Park was a popular destination for visitors with live music on the stage throughout the event as well as a wide selection of vendors and a beverage garden.

"I love the outdoor music and the cars are just amazing," said Catey Brenton of Penticton. "It's just the best, it feels like summer and everyone is happy."

Sunday morning will feature a gospel Elvis performance, the draw for the OSNS Motorcycle and the presentation of trophies and awards.

Admission to Gyro Park is $3 and is good for all three days.
