Bear cub gets caught

UPDATE: 2:31 p.m.

The bear cub has been caught by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, after officers tranquilized the bear, dropping it out of a tree.

The condition of the bear is unknown at this time.

The small black bear was first spotted on the Paul’s Tomb trail at 8:45 a.m., but the little guy appears to have been fed up with the forest, and chased his dreams to the big city.

He made his way down to Tolko Mill and into Tugboat Bay, taking in the scenery and enjoying the mild temperatures of one of the first days of summer in Kelowna.

At this point, the bear had attracted a bit of a fanclub as well as local RCMP, who attempted to direct the bear back from whence it came.

No such luck.

The fearless cub swam across the nearby lagoon and onto the path behind Discovery Bay, near Waterfront Park.

He made his way out to Sunset Drive, with police hot on his trail.

Having had enough of the lake, the cub moseyed east, checking out the local real estate south of Clement Avenue, most likely unaware of Kelowna’s low vacancy rate and high rental prices.

With the RCMP still on his tail, he decided to stop for a rest, climbing up a tree at 1380 Richter Street to take in the views of the city.

There is no word yet on the long-term rental possibilities of the tree in question.
