Small fire at Heritage Inn

UPDATED: 7 p.m.

Fire Chief Tony Trovao said a power outage in Naramata caused the fire alarm to go off at the inn and they first responded at 3:08 p.m.

They took a look around and everything appeared to be in order, so they left.

Then at 4:19 p.m., the department was again called out to the historic inn because smoke was reportedly coming from the bottom floor.

Following an interior search, firefighters found the smoke was coming from the mechanical room. There they narrowed it down to a motor in the furnace that had burned out.

The department also called the Penticton Fire Department for back up to cover the fire hall while they were at the location.

Trovao said it is good they responded when they did because it could have been a much worse situation.

The cause remains under investigation.

Fire crews were called out to the Naramata Heritage Inn and Spa Friday afternoon following a 911 call.

While the hotel remains open, those in the area say there was small fire.

The restaurant is now closed for the night.

There are reports the Naramata Fire Department asked for assistance from crews in Penticton; however, the matter was quickly resolved.
