Golf balls and sugar plums

Get your tickets while you still can for the Rene Bourgault Legacy Golf Tournament July 15.

The event features a nine-hole Texas scramble golf tournament, a roast beef dinner, a whole bunch of side games, beverages, food and much more. The tournament is open to all golfers, from beginners to pros.  You can sign up as a group, or as an individual and we’ll find a group for you.

Rene started this golf tournament for the Kelowna Jaycees three years ago. The prizes are stacking up:   Boat rentals from Dockside, the Hole in One opportunity include a car from Subaru, and $10,000 from Dakoda’s Pub, And just confirmed, Pacific Coastal Airlines is donating two return flights to Victoria.

Rene’s favorite drink was white owl and ginger, so come see me on the sixth hole and have a drink with me in his honour — https://www.facebook.com/events/1741274536116128/.

The entire Sugar Plum Transformation Team has been named now — Colin Basran, Gilliane and Jason Richards, Vincent and Valuara and me (Kevin Lavigne).

To come up with our drag names, the organizers tried to use what was the name of your first pet followed by the street you grew up on, but Chucky West Kelowna Road didn’t sound too sexy.

More than 150 tickets have sold and I believe this is going to be an amazing event, so get your tickets right away — https://www.facebook.com/events/623073734516062/.

Congratulations to the Pushor Mitchell Puck Pushors Hockey Team for bringing home the 2016 Redwood Cup in the PlayOn tournament last weekend.

There was a secret meeting about a secret club that happened last night. It promises to bring some great social activities to Kelowna, so get ready to act fast as it will be an amazing club to be a part of.

The Top 40 Under 40 winners all gathered last night to celebrate their nominations; 150 people were at the Laurel Packinghouse to showcase their successes.

I think we are in some good hands with this future generation that is in Kelowna. There were some conversations about the stupid things we did in high school but look at us now.

The moral of that story is, don’t give up on your blue-haired, hipster kids. Check out all the winners at http://www.kelownachamber.org/chamber/Top_Forty_Under_40.aspx.

Motovida Cycle is having its Motovida Guzzi launch Party on June 30. It is now officially the Motovida Guzzi dealer, the oldest Italian manufacturer of motorcycles. Motovida owner Brent Giesbrecht says it’s time for a party. Straight and to the point. I love it. Check out its website — www.motovida.com — for a look at all the cool bikes.

Melissa Sbrega of Festivals Kelowna has organized yet another great Canada Day Festival. It will be a fun-filled day with more than 50 activities and performances for all ages and abilities to enjoy.

More than 60,000 Kelowna-nites come to the waterfront to celebrate together last year. Don’t forget to bring some money as donations are needed to keep this a free festival.

I will see you at the Save On Foods watermelon table. I don’t have to tell you want day this is happening on, do I?

Another fun event to celebrate Canada Day weekend is the Craft and Country Beer and Music Mountain Festival happening at Big White on July 2-3.

I assume Michael J likes a good craft beer, but I wonder if he will be singing on stage, too? There will be more than 20 craft breweries there, but which will pair better with your Sunday brunch is the real question.  Check out the Globe Sunday morning at 10 a.m. to find out.

Tuesday, June 28 is the next Gennext social happening at BNA brewing company. This social will allow you to brainstorm with a local non-profit organization on some of their challenges.

Gennext is a group of strong, young professionals with a moral compass. Kevin Schmidt says they live a balanced lifestyle, which includes giving back to the community. If you, or someone you know, is looking to give back, check it out. It will be very rewarding.

Make it a great week.
