Help find family's medals

Surrey RCMP are appealing to the public for help in the return of military medals stolen during a residential break and enter earlier this month.

On June 14th, a house was broken into in the 6300 block of 126th Street in Surrey, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.  No witnesses to the event were located, police said.

Among the items taken was a framed collection of Second World War medals and keepsakes from the home owner’s deceased father. The collection, mounted and framed, has great sentimental value and cannot be replaced.

“It’s hard to imagine the heartache felt by this victim at having some of the last few memories of his father being stolen,” said Cpl. Scotty Schumann. “It defies logic as to why someone would even want to steal them given their value is purely sentimental. Hopefully the suspect will realize this and return the collection or someone will recognize it and help get it back to its rightful owner.”

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or online
