Man drowns in Fraser River

A Jet Ski accident may have cost the life of a man on the Fraser River this morning.

According to CTV Vancouver, a man is dead following the early morning incident on a section of the river in Maple Ridge.

Police were called to the river for reports of a possible drowning around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

CTV reports that someone went to a nearby gas station to report a Jet Ski crash in the water near Haney Bypass and 225 Street.

Emergency responders performed CPR after the man was pulled from the water, but he did not survive.

A Coast Guard hovercraft was brought into the area to find the Jet Ski that was reportedly involved, but it appears nothing was recovered.

It’s unclear how the man ended up in the river, or how exactly he died.

Ridge Meadows RCMP say they are in the early stages of their investigation, which is being treated as a sudden death.
