Bikes, coffee & beer

Well I hope you’re relaxed after the long weekend because Randy Schuler of the Schueler Group needs your energy to support the YMCA Cycle For Strong Kids this Sunday May 29th.  Randy will be on the bike raising his heart rate and raising funds at this high energy event.  Come out and support them through group cycling, a family bike ride, at the kid zone or just come for some food, drinks and prizes.  Register here.

Speaking of Bike Rides did you see all the Get In The Loop Cruisers powered by young professionals around the water Thursday night?  What a cool experience!  Matt Crowley & Tyler Parfeniuk organized the event which brought out Kirtsen Fair, Tracy Rawlings, Corey Wagner & our own Colin Basran.  Biking is the new golf for business.

After using all that energy you need to have a beer and relax again.  For that reason I can’t wait for the new Starkhund Brewery to open up at the corner of Ellis and Clement.  Rebecca Hardin says it’s going to be 2 floors of a world-class beer establishment, but you need to wait until 2017.

There are a few micro-breweries starting up in Kelowna that I want to rave about but they have asked me to hold off until all the kinks are worked out. So start getting excited because I haven’t tried a bad beer from them yet, and yes, I have tried some bad beers in my day.

I can talk about ‘Canoe Coffee Roaster’, which is a newer micro-coffee roaster in Kelowna that is having huge success.  Dave Upshaw has built a mobile cafe which can be found at the Kelowna’s Crafter Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They are so good that they will give Brent Lachman roasting skills a run for his money. I suggest the Brazil Black Diamond.

Ken Stober founded Third Space Coffeehouse in the Landmark Buildings and it just topped the list of Coffee Shops you must visit in Canada.  Look out Okanagan wine industry here comes local coffee and beers to give you a run for your money.

Congratulations to Brian Stephenson of PushorMitchell for being sworn in as an official lawyer yesterday. You will do an amazing job but you need to celebrate with more than ice cream. Lol.

Family Fun Day is also back this Sunday at Parkinson Recreation from 1-4pm.  Jac Amareeli, Kelly Pratch and Crystal Ezra keep bringing their families back because they always do such a great job at this event providing tennis lesson, bouncy castles and the free swim.  I hope to see you there too.

Don’t forget about the Cancer Society’s Daffodil Ball this Saturday and Motionball Comedy at Dakoda’s Sunday night.

Thank you so much for supporting the events and businesses that have been mentioned in my previous 2 articles.  The response I am getting from the owners and event organizers is exciting to hear. It’s also a great feeling knowing that these columns are helping them succeed which is the whole point!

Make it a great week!
