Let's talk about arena

Greater Vernon residents are being invited to talk about what's needed for the new arena slated for construction beside Kal Tire Place.

City of Vernon staff and MQN Architects, designers of the arena, are inviting the public to consultation sessions to provide input on the Kal Tire Place expansion.

The four public sessions include:

  • June 1, 1-2:30 p.m. at Lakers club house
  • June 2, 1-2:30 p.m. at the Coldstream Women’s Institute hall
  • June 3, 1-2:30 p.m. at the BX fire hall
  • June 6, 7-8:30 p.m. at Kal Tire Place in the Grand Room

A number of user groups are expected to weigh in on what is needed ahead of construction of the $13 million building.

The public consultations are part of first stage work that also includes geotechnical testing, an environmental impact study, initial design work and a traffic demand study.

The target for opening the new facility is the fall of 2018.

The new ice sheet is expected to replace the aging Civic arena.
