Artscape Exhibition program

On Wednesday, June 1st the public are invited to join local artists for an opening reception at the downtown Kelowna library from 7 - 9 p.m.  The opening celebrates the work 13 local artists currently displaying work at the downtown library, as well as to kickoff the relaunch of the Artscape Exhibition program.

The Arts Council of the Central Okanagan’s Artscape Exhibition program, which has been going since 1995,  creates exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists, as well as community groups and provides artistic enrichment of public venues.

The program hangs artwork in 6 locations: Kelowna Main Library, Kelowna Community Theatre, Cottonwoods Extended Care Centre, Dr. Grover Dental Office, Kelowna Mission Library, and Okanagan College Kelowna Campus Library.

Currently, there are 3 solo exhibitions up with work by Joshua Wallace at the Kelowna Community Theatre, work by Christina Clothier at the Mission Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library and work by Kim Glowa at Dr.Grover Dental Office in downtown Kelowna.

At the downtown Kelowna Library there is a special group show of work by 13 local artists. Doug Boyd, Yolanda De Villiers, Karen Etheridge, Darryl Frasier, Elaine Frasier, Janet Gerber, Sheila Heidte, Shelley Hewitt , Tim Nakashoji, Ingrid Sivorot, Lillian Sokil and Bev Whiting are all students of established international artist Gillian Rau. Rau spent most of her life in sun- soaked Africa, before immigrating to Canada in 2010. She now resides in the beautiful Okanagan Valley of British Columbia.

This group exhibition shows Rau’s work alongside the work of her students, for many of whom this is their first public exhibition, demonstrating just how far their work has come under Rau’s tutelage. The artists have all been taught the full techniques of mixing an infinite range of colours from a limited palette, correct brushwork, composition, and perspective, as well as the emotional, technical and intellectual aspects of the wonderful world of oil painting.

The group show features a selection of landscape and portraiture oil paintings and are on view from May 24th to August 30th during the open hours of the downtown Kelowna Library.

The public is invited to join the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan for the Artscape opening reception and kick-off from 7 - 9pm on Wednesday June 1st at the downtown library, located at 1380 Ellis St, Kelowna.
