Considering 'Kamplan'

It's time to talk as the City of Kamloops begins public consultations on Phase 2 of its official community plan.

The city is seeking feedback as it looks at two potential land use scenarios to accommodate population growth in Kamloops over the next 20 years. Areas of concern include: land use and development, environment, infrastructure, transportation, housing, parks and recreation, economic development, arts and culture, community well-being and health and safety.

Public engagement activities for Phase 2 begin next week and continue throughout June.

Activities include OCPizza nights or so-called “meetings-in-a-box.” Participating groups receive training, materials and free pizza to conduct their own public consultation session on the two draft land use scenarios and the draft goals and policy directions under the OCP topic area of their choice. The results are sent back to the city.

Neighbourhood associations, community-based organizations, service clubs, community committees, task forces, policy councils, advisory boards and others can take part.

Interested groups need to send a member to attend a facilitator training sessions on either May 30 or 31, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 105 Seymour Street in the Development and Engineering Services Boardroom. RSVP to [email protected] to register

As well, the city will be hosting three Kamplan roadshow events. These events will feature interactive displays and information booths on the land use scenarios and 10 OCP topic areas. City staff will be on hand to answer questions.

The roadshows take place:

Saturday, June 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Northills Mall (by Independent Grocer entrance)

Saturday, June 11, 8 a.m. to noon, Farmers’ Market

Saturday, June 18, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aberdeen Mall (Centre Court)
