Centre opening on weekend

The Naramata Centre re-opens this Saturday after being closed for more than a year.

The long existing facility in the heart of the village, will offer accommodations to start, with programs to be offered beginning in June.

"Unlike in the past where people had to take a program at the centre, this year people can come and stay and take a program or just come to stay and explore the South Okanagan," said Robin Robertson, a contractor working for the centre society.

The centre offered a wide variety of programs for many years before closing its doors in January of 2015.

It is now coming back to life, with more than 28 volunteers from Saskatchewan, Alberta and B.C. at the site this week preparing it for guests.

Accommodations include 43 campsites and 26 one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom vintage cottages, motel style units and upscale contemporary apartments.

They are available for week long bookings only, Saturday to Saturday.

Programming starts June 18. Over the course of the summer offerings will include music, pottery, yoga, a contemplative photography practice, an all-ages story and arts experience and other things.

Workers in Naramata have said they are happy to see the centre re-open, because it brings people into the village.
