Funtastic filling up

If you haven't got your team signed up for the Funtastic slo-pitch tournament this year, then you had better be quick. There are only a few spaces left.

“Right now we're at almost over 200 teams,” said Tony Pallas, executive director of the Funtastic Sports Society. He said the tournament can handle 216 teams and he would love it to be completely sold out.

“We've got teams coming from all over Western Canada, including Regina, as well as teams from the Yukon, the Lower Mainland and plenty from around the Okanagan Valley."

Tickets for the other big part to the Canada Day long weekend, the music festival, are still on offer, but they are selling fast.

“We've got Platinum Blonde and Big Sugar for our headliners,” said Pallas, adding there's a locals night with the Young'uns and a tribute band night as well. All details can be found online.

Security is high on the list as Funtastic prepares for the fun. Pallas was meeting Wednesday with officials from the Department of Defence as the ball diamonds are all on DND ground.

“Security is a big aspect because we want to produce a safe event,” said Pallas. “Not only do we have a ton of volunteers who produce the event, we've also got ICM, international crowd management, that has partnered with Funtastic for many years as our main security partner.

“On top of that, the event takes place on DND grounds so we've got the military police as well as the RCMP there. Security is not an issue whatsoever.”
