Cyclist dies of injuries

A senior has succumbed to injuries suffered during a collision in Stanley Park last week.

The unidentified 72-year-old man was cycling in the park early last Tuesday afternoon, when a vehicle made contact with him as they travelled along Stanley Park Drive near Second Beach.

The cyclist lost his balance and fell heavily onto the road.

He was taken to hospital for surgery for a serious head injury.

The man died in hospital Monday.

Members of the Vancouver Police Collision Investigation Unit continue to probe the factors involved in the collision.

The 20-year-old driver has been co-operative with police and there is no indication that speed, alcohol, or distracted driving played a role in the crash.

This is Vancouver’s ninth traffic-related fatality this year.
