Charity will be the big winner when NHL stars of the past and present take part in a Skins Game prior to the PGA Tour Canada event at Gallagher's Canyon Golf Course next month.
The GolfBC Championship Charity Skins Game will feature current and former NHL players, teaming up Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada players.
Total prize money is $5,000 for charity.
“Our goal with the GolfBC Championship is to engage the community and give people something to come out and watch while raising money for charity,” said tournament director Hugh Vassos.
“With so many current and former NHL players calling the Okanagan Valley home, it made sense to add a hockey element and have some fun with it.”
The event will tee off June 8, following opening ceremonies at 3 p.m. to kick off the first ever Mackenzie Tour event in Kelowna.
Two-time all-star Wade Redden has confirmed his entry into the event.
When I heard about the opportunity to get involved with the event, I couldn’t have been more excited to tee it up. Hopefully, we can get a good number of people out, have a good time and raise some money for a good cause,” said Redden, a veteran of more than 1,000 regular season and 100 playoff NHL games.
Chan Family Foundation, GolfBC's charitable arm, will be matching the charity purse with a $5,000 matching donation to benefit the BC Cancer Foundation, for a total of $10,000 committed to charity through this event.
The remainder of the field will be announced soon.
