Police have busy weekend

Police were busy over the May long weekend with thefts, car crashes, fights and an incident on the Okanagan River Channel.

On Friday night, there were 35 calls – including lots of mischief and drunks, with the bars being full.

During Saturday day shift, the number went up to 38 calls, including a man kicking glass at the Yacht Cub on Marina Way and a fight between campers on Fish Lake Road, as well as four motor vehicle crashes.

On Saturday night, there were 23 calls, including a person prohibited from driving who was stopped and found to be in possession of drug paraphenalia and ammunition. The person was not intoxicated.

A woman was observed by an officer at the Chevron to be out past her curfew. She tried to hide behind a dog in the vehicle and was found to be in possession of meth and heroin.

A man broke into the compound at Skaha Ford, but the stolen items were recovered.

Sunday was also busy, with 27 files.

Officers responded to a possible drowning on the channel, after floaties tied together with several people on board, got hung up at the bridge at Green Mountain Road.

Everyone was eventually accounted for, but RCMP Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth asked that people not tie floaties together when they float down the channel.

He said they have this same issue every year. He also suggested that parents make their children wear life jackets.

On Sunday night, there was a fight at the fire pit at Power Street and Lakeshore Drive. One extremely intoxicated man was taken to hospital.

On Monday night, there were 30 files, several for disturbance.
