Knights wow crowd at joust

Hundreds of people decked out in all sorts of renaissance-era attire made it out to the Desert Park Exhibition grounds this weekend for a taste of a time long gone.

The Osoyoos horse track hosted the Alberta-based Society of Tilt and Lance Cavalry on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, holding two jousting events each day.

The competition was fierce on Sunday, with the crowd loudly cheering on the knights with every pass.

After several passes, and even an injury that knocked Radar Goddard out of competition, victory was claimed by the American, Sir Ripper Moore.

The heavy wind was a factor throughout the day, causing some lance-positioning issues for the knights.

The crowd kept their energy high though, waving flags of support for each knight and cheering on the horses.

After the event, the knights held a meet and greet with their horses, signing broken pieces of lance for the young and old in attendance to take home.

While this weekend was the first time jousting has been held in the Okanagan, organizers hope to make it an annual event.

The action continues Monday, with the final joust held at 4 p.m.
