Fatal crash in Surrey

UPDATE: 8:40 a.m.

Two people have died as a result of a serious motor vehicle crash in Surrey that occurred around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, report RCMP.

Three others are in hospital, with one in critical condition.

“Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 88th Avenue and 152nd Street in Surrey involving multiple vehicles,” said Staff Sgt. Murray Hedderson.

A Toyota 4-Runner turning left onto 152nd Street was slammed in the passenger side by an eastbound Hyundai. The Hyundai then deflected off and struck a third vehicle that was travelling westbound on 88th Avenue, said police.

“One person was deceased at the scene. Four other persons were transported to hospital via ambulance. A second person succumbed to their injuries at the hospital,” said Hedderson. “One person is presently in critical condition in hospital, and the other two are in serious but stable condition.”

Hedderson said the incident is under investigation.

The intersection was closed to all traffic at the time of the collision but was expected to reopen at approximately 10 a.m.

Surrey RCMP are appealing for witnesses to the collision or for people who observed the vehicles driving prior to the crash. Witnesses are asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or to call Crime Stoppers.

Two people have been killed in a vehicle crash in Surrey early Sunday morning.

Pictures showed the intersection, at 88th Avenue and 152nd Street, still closed hours after the crash while RCMP officers attempted to reconstruct the scene.

Debris littered the intersection and a mashed vehicle sat on the road.

A number of other people were taken to hospital.
