Three members of the Okanagan Sun are heading to the B.C. Lions rookie camp next week.
The Lions' organization is said to have been keeping a watchful eye on the three players: Michele Vecchio, Layne Hull and Matt McConnell.
This will be Vecchio’s second straight rookie camp.
Last season, he performed better than expected and won an invitation to Lions’ main camp, however an injury didn’t allow him to participate. This season the veteran is hopeful to get the same opportunity.
Layne Hull's first invite follows an outstanding 2015 campaign that culminated with winning the Canadian Bowl defensive player of the game award. He made two tackles, had three assists, blocked a kick and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown and picked off a pass. During the regular season he tallied 14 tackles, 3.5 sacks and forced a fumble.
This is also the first time at the rookie camp for Matt McConnell who appeared at four spring evaluation camps. He collected 22 tackles, two assisted tackles, two knockdowns, one fumble recovery for a touchdown and an interception last season.
All three players will join Lions’ draft pick Brennan Van NIstelrooy at camp which begins on Wednesday at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.
