Charges have been laid against a high-risk sex offender following an attack on an 86-year-old woman in Vancouver.

Jason Anthony White is charged with break-and-enter and assault causing bodily harm following an attack in the Oakridge area on April 7. 

Police said the victim was walking into the back entrance of her home, near 45th Avenue and Cambie Street, when a man tried to force his way in.

She suffered a broken hand in the struggle, and the attacker fled when an alarm went off.

White, a 45-year-old sex offender who was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, was arrested two days after the incident, on the University of British Columbia campus.
