An auxiliary constable with the Kamloops RCMP has retired after 12,555 hours of service in a 39-year career.
On May 2, friends and co-workers celebrated Don Torry's retirement just the way he wanted, with chocolate cake and coffee.
Torry joined the program on June 27, 1977, in Kamloops and would have stayed if he hadn't reached the mandatory retirement age of 70 on May 1.
His hours of service are double what are necessary to be a part of a team working with the RCMP.
"Throughout his career Don has participated in community events, crime prevention education, home and business security, parades, traffic control, search and rescue and crime scene security. Don has received the Peace Officer Exemplary Service Medal, Queen’s Jubilee Medal and several community volunteer awards," stated an RCMP press release.
Supt. Brad Mueller, of the Kamloops RCMP, was on hand to personally thank Don for his outstanding service to the detachment.
Tory has now joined the RCMP Volunteer Program and will be continuing with business security checks and other volunteer duties.
