Picnics for Paddlewheel

A picnic shelter for Paddlewheel Park appears to be a go.

The Greater Vernon Advisory Committee has given a thumbs up to the project, recommending the Okanagan Landing and District Community Association be granted $24,670 towards the cost as long as it can raise the other funds.

An additional $5,000 in taxpayers' money is expected to be used to move water lines at the park.

The shelter would be owned, maintained and operated by the local association, staff said.

The total cost of building the 20-by-30 foot timber-framed structure is an estimated $49,670, with the rest of the money coming from donations.

The design of the shelter is modelled on a former docking station at the landing where passengers would wait for paddlewheel ships.
