ORIGINAL 11:30 a.m.

While the Fort McMurray fire may be far away, it strikes home for most here in the Okanagan, and a local vet is offering his help to those fleeing to the Interior.

Dr. Moshe Oz of Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital is opening his doors to any cats or dogs displaced by the Fort McMurray fire.

While he knows the fire is far away, he says several of his clients work in the oilsands town and are on their way to the Okanagan for refuge.

He says anyone who needs help can bring their displaced pet to his clinic at 2476 Westlake Rd. where he can help with medications, food and a place to stay – free of charge.

For the last few years, Oz has been taking in pets displaced by fire, in 2014 he took in 90 cats requiring a place to wait out the Shannon Lake fire.

“We have done this before,” he said. “We all know the drill.”

If anyone needs to bring their pet in they can contact him at 250-769-9109.
