Arrests in Mac's robbery

Arrests have been made over an armed robbery last month where a teenage clerk was held at knifepoint.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy said Lumby RCMP have arrested two men in connection with the robbery of the Lumby Mac's store April 24.

Thomas Belanger, 34, of Lumby, is facing charges of robbery, unlawful confinement and uttering threats.

Keegan Reed, 21, also from Lumby, is facing charges of unlawful confinement, robbery, uttering threats and accessory to an offense.

“They are both currently remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in provincial court on May 4,” said Noseworthy.

Anyone with further information regarding this matter is asked to call the Lumby RCMP at 250-547-6184 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

At approximately 1:10 a.m. on April 24th, a lone man entered the Mac's convenience store in Lumby and produced a knife, demanding money from the cash register and safe.

The man had locked the door leading outside and held the knife to the female employee, forcing her to sit on the floor behind the till for a period of time.

An undisclosed amount of cash, lottery tickets and cigarettes were stolen and the man fled the store.

WorksafeBC looked into the circumstances of the robbery and has told the convenience store to comply with certain recommendations.
