Wary of third party

Alberta's two conservative political leaders are not impressed by a weekend convention that voted to look at forming a third right-centre party.

Brian Jean, leader of the Opposition Wildrose, says a another party would only further fracture the conservative movement in the province.

Jean says the Wildrose will continue to work to show it is the party worthy of Alberta voters on that side of the political ledger.

Ric McIver of the Progressive Conservatives says you can't unite members by dividing them further.

About 400 people attending a convention in Red Deer on the weekend voted to look at creating a third party to unite conservatives.

McIver says he expects to hear more about the future of conservatism and of his own party at its annual general meeting this weekend.
