Pedestrian pinned in crash

A vehicle careened into a group of pedestrians after a serious collision in Surrey, Saturday evening.

One pedestrian was pinned under the vehicle when two cars collided at the intersection of 138th Street and 72nd Avenue about 6:45 p.m.

A southbound vehicle turning left onto 72nd was broadsided by a northbound vehicle on 138th, sending one of the vehicles into a group of pedestrians standing on the corner.

Police, fire and ambulance crews responded to the crash, freeing the victim from under the vehicle, and three seriously injured pedestrians were taken to hospital.

One woman is in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. A man suffered serious head and facial injuries, and is in stable condition, while a second woman has non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition, Surrey RCMP spokesman Staff Sgt. M.A. Hedderson said in a press release.

The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene, and drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers.
