Bonfire doused in Wilden

Firefighters put out a large bonfire Friday night in Kelowna.

The Kelowna Fire Department was called to the Wilden area at about 9:30 p.m. 

“The Kelowna Fire Department had to use the ATV Gator to access this fire as it was located in difficult to reach wilderness terrain,” said KFD platoon Capt. Dennis Miller in a news release. 

“On scene, the crew located the large fire made up of pallets and large logs, the fire was extinguished with no issues. The cause of the fire was persons having a bush party in the woods.”

The fire department is reminding people that as of Saturday all opening burning with a permit will end for the season.

“Also, open fires including camp fires are illegal and contrary to the city bylaw and are not permitted in the City of Kelowna,” said Miller. 

“Please note that the dry weather has made our forested areas extremely dry for this time of year as well.”

Police put out a reminder Friday that as grad season approaches that bush parties can become dangerous.
