Talking about assisted death

UBC Okanagan is hosting a webinar on a hot topic.

As Canada moves toward legalizing assisted dying, the university is hosting the discussion by Dr. Harvey Chochinov, chair of the federal panel exploring options for a legislative response to the Supreme Court decision on physician-assisted death.

It takes place on Monday, from 10 to 11 a.m. and is titled: Assisted death: What everyone should know.

The talk will be streamed from Reichwald Health Sciences, at UBCO's lecture theatre 257.

Questions about assisted death have been a water cooler topic ever since the federal government passed legislation to allow physician-assisted deaths two weeks ago.

Chochinov will talk about the legislation and answer underlying questions that family members want to know. He is a professor of psychiatry, Canada research chair in palliative care at the University of Manitoba and director of the Manitoba Palliative Care Research Unit.

The public is asked to register to attend the free event or log in with their own devices to view it.
