An elderly woman is in hospital in Kamloops following a single vehicle crash on Highway 1 just west of Salmon Arm.

The crash occurred about 7:30 Thursday morning, near Third Nations Road.

Police in the Shuswap say the eastbound vehicle she was driving swerved across the centre line and into a ditch, hitting a tree.

The woman was transported by air ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital, while her male passenger was taken to Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

The extent of their injuries are not known.

Police believe there may have been a medical emergency prior to the crash.
