The West Kelowna Warriors made a triumphant return to Royal LePage Place.
The Warriors didn't disappoint in their first game on home ice in nearly three weeks, earning a hard fought 3-2 win over the Langley Rivermen Saturday.
Brett Mennear had a goal and an assist, while Scott Allen and Quin Foreman, with the game winner also scored for the Warriors.
The win came a night after the Warriors seven game winning streak was snapped following a poor effort in Penticton.
"After last night we wanted to bounce back a little bit after licking our wounds," said Warriors head coach Rylan Ferster.
"I thought it was good for our guys to bounce back against a very good hockey. I thought it was a fairly entertaining game from a fan standpoint."
Mennear, the best player on the ice on either team, got the ball rolling midway through the opening period.
He took the puck at his own blueline as a Warriors penalty expired and raced toward the Langley line. He deked two defencemen, moved in all alone and beat Bo Didur with a nifty move to the backhand from in close..
The goal came moments after Liam Blackburn took a high stick to the face. No call was made at the time, however, after the goal, the officials huddled and the linesmen made the call. The goal stood and the Warriors were handed a four minute power-play.
They were unable to capitalized.
Langley tied it seven minutes into the second but Scott Allen restored the lead four minutes later when his wrist shot from just inside the blueline appeared to beat a screened Didur.
Foreman got the eventual game winner with less than two minutes to go in the second off a one-timer from the slot.
Warriors goaltender Matthew Greenfield was the star of the third period with his best save coming off a backdoor play by Langley with the man advantage.
Greenfield sprawled out, kicked his right pad toward the post and kicked away the one-timer.
"It's something people probably don't see but, when your goalie makes a huge save like that, it just gives everyone confidence," said Ferster.
"Now, you're able to go that little bit harder. A huge save does so much for you and when he makes one like that it just lifts up your whole bench."
The Rivermen got close with a goal on a rebound but were not able to get any closer.
Even with Didur on the bench for an extra attacker, the Warriors were able to shut things down.
Greenfield ended up turning away 36 shots to earn the win.
Kyler Hope picked up an assist on the first goal, his 100th BCHL point. The win was also the 150th for Ferster behind the Warriors bench.
The win keeps the Warriors five points up on Salmon Arm and reduces their magic number to clinch second place and home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, to four.
The Silverbacks, who hold two games in hand, won 3-0 in Port Alberni Saturday. They use up one of those games in hand Sunday when they close out a road trip in Powell River.
The Warriors are off until Tuesday when they host the Vernon Vipers to start a rare midweek home-and-home set.
Both games are at 11 a.m. as both teams host local school kids in a pair of anti-bullying games.
