Chartier 'tricks' Cougars

The Kelowna Rockets needed every bit of Rourke Chartier's hat trick Friday in a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win over the Prince George Cougars.

Chartier scored the game tying goal with 70 seconds left in regulation time then netted the winner 2:47 into three-on-three overtime.

It was the only shot of the extra period.

It's Chartier's second hat trick this week and third this season.

His other goal tied the game at 2-2 midway through the second period.

This was a tight game throughout with each team scoring once in each period.

Tomas Soustal opened the scoring for Kelowna with a power-play goal 6:19 into period one.

Michael Herringer was outstanding in net for Kelowna, turning aside 43 of 46 shots he faced as the Cougars outshot Kelowna 46-34 on the night.

The Rockets win moves them back into top spot in the overall WHL standings, a point better than Lethbridge and two up on idle Victoria.

The same two teams meet again Saturday in Prince George.

The Rockets return home to host the Red Deer Rebels, this year's Memorial Cup hosts, Tuesday.
