UnWined at Carnival

Vernon Winter Carnival-goers can unwind at UnWined.

The Downtown Vernon Association event features an evening of exclusive late-night shopping at downtown boutiques, with special deals and discounts for UnWined event guests.

It's hailed as ladies night downtown.

Food and beverage samples will be offered at each stop, along with contests and giveaways throughout the evening.

The second annual event begins at the Vernon Public Art Gallery, 3288-31st Ave., at 5 p.m.

The hockey stars of tomorrow will be on the ice today as the 45th annual Coca-Cola Classic Peewee Hockey Tournament kicks off at Civic Arena.

The tournament is held in conjunction with the Vernon Winter Carnival and features teams from B.C., Alberta, Alaska and Washington State.

The official opening ceremonies are being held at 5:30 p.m.

Carnival Cops will be on the prowl again as the annual Arrest the Best continues.

Vernon Atrium and Conference Centre will host the Jopo House Luncheon today and Friday. Doors open at 11 a.m. with lunch at 11:45 with the musical group Uptown 10 taking the stage from 12:15-1:45 p.m.

Admission is $26 for the buffet lunch and show.

The Senior Jopo House Luncheon will be held at the Schubert Centre from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The $12 admission includes a meal and a variety show.

The Fancy Nancy Tea Party will take place at the library, 2800 30th Ave., starting at 3:30 p.m.

Storytelling and snacks will be provided at the free event, but space is limited so people are encouraged to register with the library.

Cross-country ski enthusiasts can head to Sovereign Lake for the Candlelight Dinner at Black Prince Cabin. A five-kilometre ski will take participants to the cabin for some fine dining and wine paring.

Tickets are $40 each or $75 per couple.
