Large police response

UPDATED 3:55 P.M.

Police are releasing few details about an incident on 27th Avenue Wednesday afternoon, but did say two people were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

On Feb. 10, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Vernon RCMP were notified of an incident on the 3500 block of 27th Ave.

“Police attended and found a vehicle had gone off the road at that location and struck a pedestrian,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

“The extent of the injuries are currently unknown; two people have been transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital for treatment in relation to this matter.”

The 3500 block of 27th Ave is currently closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic as RCMP investigate this matter.

“No further information is available at this time,” said Noseworthy.

An incident in the 3500 block of 27th Avenue prompted a large RCMP response Wednesday afternoon.

Police are not releasing any information on what has occurred at 3509 27th Ave., but Castanet saw at least 10 police vehicles and more than a dozen officers attending a green and grey house.

Along with uniformed officers, there were several plainclothes police at the scene.

At least one person was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police sealed off the road to the public on either side of the house, stringing yellow police tape at the scene as a crowd gathered to watch the action.

At a residence next door to the house that was getting police attention, sat a silver BMW with the driver's side window smashed out. The car was sitting atop a rock garden and had some front end damage.

A witness who lives in an apartment block across the street from the house said he saw five men chasing the silver car before smashing out the side window. The car then went off the road and into the rock garden.

The man also claimed the green and gray home was a crack house and that people were constantly coming and going from the residence.

Police have yet to comment.

Castanet will provide further details as soon as they become available.
