Yogi the dog to be killed

Yogi, the Rottweiler-husky cross that attacked two sisters in December, will be put to death after its owner withdrew an application to keep the dog alive.

The sisters, Kati and Jessi Mather, 21, had taken the dog from Lucas MacNeil’s house with Jesse’s three-year-old son on Dec. 30.

The women say Yogi suddenly turned on them in a park on the 9200 block of Williams Road in Richmond. Kati suffered more than 100 bites in the attack.

The dog was taken into custody by the City of Richmond, and officials quickly applied to have it euthanized.

MacNeil argued the dog’s life should be spared since the women had taken the dog out of his house without his permission, and Yogi had no history of aggression.

MacNeil had posted to social media in early January saying he planned to seek legal help in getting Yogi back.

Ted Townsend, a spokesperson with the City of Richmond, says MacNeil has since changed his mind, and has now signed over the dog to the city.

He is arranging a final visit with Yogi before the dog is killed.
