Police in two Lower Mainland communities were kept busy Tuesday, responding to calls of gun play.
About 11:45 a.m., New Westminster police responded to the 2200 block of 8th Avenue after receiving a report of bullet holes in both a vehicle and a house.
As a result, the major crime unit has assumed conduct of the investigation, and no one is believed to have been injured.
“Members are in the early stages of their investigation, but do not believe there is a risk to the public at this time,” said acting Sgt. Jeff Scott, media relations officer. “It is too soon to say if this is related to gang activity, or any other shootings that have recently happened around the Lower Mainland.”
Police are requesting anyone with information contact Det. Michelle White at 604-525-5411, or to remain anonymous call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
A couple hours later, Richmond RCMP were called to investigate a shooting complaint.
Shortly before 1 p.m. Dec. 1, police responded to the area of Cambie Road and Shell Road to investigate a report of possible shots heard.
According to police, two men were sitting in an open area north east of the intersection when a dark-coloured vehicle reportedly drove toward the men and shots were overheard. Both males and the vehicle fled the scene in different directions.
“We are currently combing the area for any traces of evidence and are awaiting the arrival of a forensic identification specialist. We are still searching for any alleged victims or suspects. We have several potential witnesses to speak to. This investigation is in the very early stages,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212, email [email protected] or to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
