What may have been a temporary homeless shelter went up in flames Monday morning.
Fire crews were called to an alley behind Spirit Halloween on Leon Street just before 7 a.m. after receiving reports of an outdoor blaze.
Platoon Capt. Eric Simpson said no one was inside the makeshift shelter when firefighters arrived, and no one was hurt in the incident.
The fire was possibly sparked by a candle that was being used inside the shelter.
Simpson said the fire did not enter the commercial building or cause damage to the inside.
A witness told Castanet the shelter had been behind the building for several weeks and recently became somewhat larger as temperatures dipped below zero.
