Lost skiers found safe

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue was alerted when two cross-country skiers became lost Sunday night near the Nordic ski trails.

However, before searchers could head into the area, an RCMP officer located the skiers.

Police had called COSAR for assistance after the lightly dressed pair called 911 on a cellphone. They were not prepared for an overnight stay in the woods.

Eight COSAR members responded and were preparing to use snow machines to go after them when the pair were located safely by an RCMP member.

This was the second call for COSAR in 24 hours.

COSAR remind outdoors enthusiasts the days are short this time of year, so activities should start and end early. Always let someone know where you plan to be and when you will return. Also, many wilderness areas, even close to town, do not have cell coverage.
