The Penticton Vees were well rested and had plenty of energy Saturday, and that was too much for the road weary Trail Smoke Eaters, as the Vees rolled over the Smokies 8-1 Saturday night at the SOEC.

Scott Conway paced the attack with two goals and four points, Demico Hannoun bagged a pair of goals as well and 13 players registered a point in the Vees win.

Zach Driscoll stopped 27 of 28 shots to improve to a 9-1 on the year and has won all three of his starts against Trail.

Evan MacEachern scored the only goal for the Smokies, who’ve now been outscored 26-6 in four games against Penticton this year, and are in the midst of six straight games on the road.

Nicholas Jones opened the scoring just 64-seconds into the game, as he scored his fourth of the season at the side of the net on a pass from Scott Conway. Conway then set up the Vees’ second goal later in the period on their first power play.

Conway threw a pass back across the goalmouth to Demico Hannoun at the side of the net, and he tapped-in his 10th at 14:22.

The Vees then blew the game wide open in the second, scoring three goals in two and a half minutes.

First, Taylor Ward scored his first of the year off the rush at 2:56. Ward fired a laser over the goalie’s glove from the right-wing that rattled of the underneath of the cross-bar.

Then, on the next shift, Mitch Brooks got his third of the year on a delayed penalty.

Brooks, wide open out front, took a pass, spun and fired through the wickets of Trail’s Bailey MacBurnie at 3:22.

Conway then turned scorer, coming down the left-wing and firing a rising shot in top corner, on the far-side at 5:24; that goal spelt the end of MacBurnie’s night, as he was replaced by Linden Marshall.

After a Trail power-play goal made it 5-1, Conway was at it again, getting one back for the Vees. Dante Fabbro’s point-shot was stopped, but Conway pounced on the juicy rebound in front at 19:02; his second and 22nd on the year.

Penticton added to their lead in the third, scoring two more to put the game well out of reach.

Demico Hannoun picked up his second of the night after he blazed a trail down the left-wing. Hannoun, at full speed, broke hard to the net and flipped a shot over the goalie’s glove on the far-side at 12:36 for his 11th.

Desi Burgart put the finishing touches on the Vees’ 26th win with his third goal at 18:42, going upstairs from the left-wing circle.

The Vees have now won 18 consecutive regular season home games dating back to February 11th, 2015 of last season; they’ve won all 13 games at the SOEC this year.

Scott Conway extended his point streak to 25-games and Tyson Jost’s streak now sits at 16-games. Jost took over the BCHL scoring lead Saturday with his assist, as he now has 57 points in 28 games. Dante Fabbro move into a tie for fourth in league scoring with three points tonight; he’s got 37 in 22 games.

Penticton (26-2-0-0) continues their five-game home stand Wednesday, when they face the Merritt Centennials (9-19-0-2) at the SOEC; puck drop is 7pm.
