Rockets drop capital tilt

The Victoria Royals earned a split of their back-to-back set with the Kelowna Rockets.

Matthew Phillips had a goal and three assists to lead the Royals past the Rockets 5-1 Saturday.

The win avenged a 3-1 loss to the Rockets Friday.

Regan Nagy got the Royals on the board on Victoria's first shot on goal just 74 seconds in.

They built the lead to 4-0 before Cole Linaker got the Rockets on the board 65 seconds into the third.

The Royals scored four times with the man advantage, going 4-8 on the power-play. The Rockets were held scoreless in their three opportunities.

Michael Herringer got the call in goal stopping 22 of 27 shots fired his way.

Coleman Vollrath wasn't very busy in the Victoria net, facing just 15 shots to earn the win.

The loss snapped the Rockets five game winning streak. It was their first regulation loss since a 2-1 setback to Prince George Oct. 30.

The Rockets return home to host the Kootenay Ice Wednesday.
