COG back with new date

Organizers of Centre of Gravity hope a new date will bring better results.

Kelowna's music and sports festival will return for a ninth year at the beginning of July, as opposed to the end.

Centre of Gravity will take place in City Park July 8-10, 2016.

The event has fallen on financial hard times after being forced to move off the August long weekend following the 2013 festival.

Along with the change in date, Centre of Gravity is also adding age restrictions for those attending the concert bowl.

Anyone attending the concert bowl, which hosts the main stage, will have to be 16 years of age or older.

Those under 16 will still be allowed to attend the festival with a sports pass.

An outdoor CrossFit tournament is also being added this year. Organizers say CrossFit gyms from around the Okanagan will have the opportunity to enter teams and compete for cash prizes.

Organizer Scott Elmslie says this year's event will "challenge the boundaries" of action sports, feature world class beach volleyball and basketball athletes and bring some of the hottest names in electronic dance music, hip hop and live music.

Once again this year, a limited number of tickets will be made available during the Black Friday Sale.

Three-day sport and music passes will be released for $169 plus taxes Friday morning at 10 a.m.

If you miss out on those, you will have to wait until spring to get tickets.

Ticket information and lineup will be announced in the spring.
