Vernon

Advance poll Wednesday

UPDATE: 9:28 a.m.

The District of Coldstream municipal office is closed due to a nearby gas spill. Voters are asked to attend two other voting locations below.

Greater Vernon residents will have one more opportunity to beat the referendum rush by casting their ballot at an advance poll Wednesday.

The referendum is to give officials approval to borrow $13.25 million to add a second sheet of ice to Kal Tire Place. The aging Civic Arena is well past its prime, prompting a need for another ice sheet, according to Vernon recreation staff.

People can vote between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at Vernon city hall, 3400 – 30 St. or Regional District of North Okanagan office, 9848 Aberdeen Rd.

The preliminary count for voter turnout for the first advance poll held on Nov. 18 was approximately 1,112. Qualified electors within the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream and Electoral Areas “B” and “C” of the RDNO may vote at any of the voting locations.

General voting day is on Saturday, Nov. 28. For voting locations go to rdno.ca/index.php/about/elections-other-voting.

Further information on the proposed project and a schedule of public information sessions is available at greatervernonrecreation.ca/arenareferendum.

Information booths on the proposed ice sheet can be found at:

Nov. 25 Schubert Centre 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Nov. 25 Kal Tire Place – Grand Room 2:30-7:30 p.m.

Nov. 26 Kal Tire Place – Grand Room 10:30-1:30 p.m.
