Cougars have been spotted in Penticton recently, the Conservation Officer Service warns.
Conservation officer Dave Cox said they received a report on Nov. 19 of a sighting in the regional park near the Penticton Yacht Club.
An hour-long search turned up nothing.
Signs were posted in the area warning users of the sighting as a precaution.
On Monday, at 1:30 p.m., the cat was sighted briefly and again about 3 p.m., it was chased up a tree by a dog.
Due to its non-threatening behavior and lack of conflict with livestock or pets, the COS did not respond.
Residents are urged to take steps to ensure their safety and the cougar's, including keeping pets on a leash at all times, keeping house cats inside and finding alternative plans for children walking to and from school, or to walk in groups if possible.

The public is encouraged to report sightings or conflicts to the RAPP line as timely as possible at 1-877-952-7277.
It is their hope that the animal leaves the area the same way it came in, with no conflict or intervention.
The COS is monitoring the situation due to the locations of the Penticton sightings.
