Lock your doors: cops

Theft from vehicles is rampant in the North Okanagan.

Dozens of cases are occurring every week, according to RCMP spokesperson Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, who reminds drivers once again to lock their doors and keep valuables out of sight.

“In a lot of the cases, people are leaving wallets, they are leaving their computers, their cellphones, all sorts of things in these vehicles, and they're unlocked ... people are just going in and taking them,” Noseworthy said.

Meanwhile, a man was expected in provincial court Monday on a charge of possession of stolen property.

Noseworthy said the charge, against 34-year-old Marc Sukowsky, followed a vehicle break-in on Findlay Road in Coldstream on Sept. 30.

A credit card from a stolen wallet was subsequently used at two Vernon businesses, police said.

Surveillance video from one of the businesses helped identify a suspect.
